This week I watched a video from Volkswagen on an experiment on "fun theory". A trashcan was rigged to make a sound effect any time something was thrown in. This bin collected more trash on average than the regular surrounding bin. The idea that making something more fun and exciting to do simply through sound is fascinating. People became interested in the bin once they heard the sound and some even went to find more trash so they could hear it play again. The trashcan by itself isn't exactly a work of art, but the way people interact with it brings it to life as a performance piece.
