Campus Concert_Sam Glover

I went to the Brass Solo Recital on November 1st. I enjoyed getting to attend a concert; I haven't done that since before the pandemic! I actually played piano for 10 years and used to perform in piano recitals, so this was a really nostalgic experience for me personally.

My favorite performances of the night were Andante and Rondo performed by Payne Akins on the F tuba and Konzertantes Allegro performed by Zach Gatewood on the bass trombone. I really enjoyed the range of pitch and tone from the tuba; I'd never really heard a tuba played outside of a symphony and I think it was really interesting how diverse it can be. There was a specific part where the tempo was quick and the music was bright and upbeat. I thought this was especially interesting because it challenged my perception of that instrument.
