For my musical event, I attended the opera "La bella dormente nel bosco" on Saturday night at the Carter Recital Hall behind Russell Union. From reading the title of the opera I assumed it had something to do with Sleeping Beauty because I had taken 3 years of Spanish in high school and knew the word "bella" meant beautiful and "dormir" meant to sleep; so I put two and two together, and seeing the show essentially confirmed my belief. The opera is based on a specific version of the tale of Sleeping Beauty, however; it is based on the fairy tale written by Charles Perrault--which is similar to the Walt Disney movie that we all know and love. I had actually never been to an opera before Saturday night, and never really had any interest in it; I'm just not really into high-pitched singing. After watching the show, I still really wouldn't say that I enjoy opera, but it was a new and interesting experience.
