Week 12 Response_Evan Hoyt
This week I'm responding to Ashlyn's video: How Sound Artist Creates Intricate Patterns With Noise “https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KEjtcsZ4TI". I thought this video was really interesting because it uses creative thinking and visualization of something scientific, which not only is mesmerizing and interesting to watch, but also helps you understand an abstract thing. Sound isn't something you can see, but it interacts with its environment through vibrations, allowing you to visualize it.
This video shows the sound interacting with small grains that moved around on a panel based on how the sound waves made vibrations along the surface. The individual grains would bounce around as frequencies made the plane vibrate, and they would gravitate towards the areas of the panel that were not vibrating. This revealed a huge variety of symmetrical shapes and patterns based on the frequencies entering the plane.
