Week 11_Response_Sam Glover

I chose to respond to Kenneth Cage's video: “Ryoji Ikeda: test pattern [time square]” (2014) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfcN9Qhfir4

The audio was really immersive. It focused more on simplifying sounds into frequencies rather than tangible things, such as crunching leaves or jingling keys. The most engaging part about this work was the artist's focus on directing the audio to specific channels, like switching from the left ear to the right ear. I thought this brought a really nice element of complexity to contrast the sounds that were somewhat simplified to their roots. I also really enjoyed how the different sounds felt like they had weight. Some frequencies were light and soft, and others were deep and loud and even overwhelming at times. I thought the contrast of the noises really complimented the contrast of the actual visual elements: white and black flashing screens.
