 Migration - Doug Aitken

In this video, several clips of animals are shown in the setting of a motel; we see a buffalo, horse, birds, and a cougar among several others. In each clip that is shown, the animals are essentially behaving in a way that is natural to them--some sitting or standing calmly, while others knock things over or rip and tear things apart. The visuals in this video in combination with the title "Migration" reminds me of what humans do to the animals' habitats in reverse. The trees, bushes, ponds, lakes, forests, and grasslands are all homes to various animal species; and we, as humans, tend to overtake their homes and migrate or expand into their territory. To me, this video serves as a sort of "what-if" as if the animals were in our position to take over the places that we call home instead. What if instead of us tearing down the nature that they call home, the animals moved into our civilization that we have worked hard to build and wrecked it in return? What if they could take it all back as their own? It is interesting to see this sort of concept.
