This week, I chose to watch the Casey Reas video. I thought it was an interesting take on a montage. The video is of an art installment called "Loves Los Angeles". The installment is a large figure made of panels which have images projected on them. You can't really tell what the images are. At one point, I noticed a sign that said "Chinese", probably from a restaurant. My guess is that the images are of places around Los Angeles. The images aren't projected in a way that you can tell what they are, rather, they are used for the patterns of light and color they give off. The video shows still shots from varying angles of the figure as the lights change. Sometimes it shows the outside, sometimes inside, and sometimes both at the same time. The man in the video is able to enter the figure and I assume that, when seen in person, this enhances the effect of the projections. I thought this was an interesting video, feeling both futuristic and gritty at the same time. Music could have an added effect, but I think the artist wanted the viewer to have their own thoughts and opinions on the piece, not influenced by anything other than what they're seeing.
