The Meaning of Style

 

I have watched this video multiple times, and I am indecisive as to exactly how I want to interpret it because so many ideas come to mind. When the video begins, you can see all of these young men gathered around in one area; many share similar characteristics—such as the clothes they are wearing or their shaved heads—which makes me feel as though they are all part of a specific group, culture, or belief. Most of them are sitting on the ground—some laying; only a few of them are actually in chairs, and they are all participating in different relaxed activities. There are men playing cards, reading, and listening to music; they all seem to be in a shared state of calm and closeness with one another. The particular area that they are sitting in feels both inside and outside from the architecture and the way that the light hits one of the men’s faces as he looks up to release the box of butterflies. With the lighting and the butterflies flying around to land on different men, this video also gives me a sense of being in touch with nature—or civilization and nature coming together as one. It feels like a shared balance or energy between worlds.
