Week 7_Video Response_ Tamara Tanksley
In video one, The Machinist's Lament, I was very confused on what's going on at first but after watching the whole thing it slowly began to make more sense. I think the purpose of this video was to show a relationship between women and the industrial society. Throughout the video there was different dancing shapes or machines that were introduced in the beginning. They were again reintroduced towards the end with a women being turned into a machine and getting fitted for it. In the middle, I remember a mask that reminded me of the mask shields that they would wear when they are working with metal and sparks will be flying. The animation was travelling through some house it seemed. It was really interesting.
Overall, I like the different art mediums that they had in this video. I also like the fact that they were able to travel with the 3D animations. They also included pictures that made sense with the words they were pulling the rods from but it didn't makes sense at the same time.
I think the artist made their point in the video. With a little more explanation, I think I would be able to fully grasp the concept that they are trying to portray.

Hi, Tamara! I also wrote about the Machinist's Lament. I completely agree, I believe this work is correlating women and industry. I happened to notice that in the beginning, the woman seems eager and excited to work. She happily does her tasks, working efficiently. By the end, when she is being fitted with the parts, she seems somber and upset. Perhaps it is a commentary about being taken advantage of in the industry.
ReplyDeleteHey, I can understand the confusion of it not giving no clear plot for the work, but after discussing this I can see it was more a take on of Avant Garde visuals from the artist.
