*Gary Hill, “Primarily Speaking” (1981-83)
This video does not give a clear direction of what it is suppose to be about. The narration in the video sounds like the person is talking with you directly with random topics and questions. The voice is calm and monotone so there is not much variation on much emotion that what he is saying. The visuals for this was interesting because it goes off a color bar that you may see on old tvs. A first I thought it was a type of cyber music to go along the visuals but then I figured out it was the artist saying the colors of the color bar.

Hello, Meaika! I think the video is about the art of communication. I think the artist is attempting to show the impact of audio mediums. I feel like the audio is the main focus of the video and the images are primarily supplemental.
ReplyDeleteAfter our group discussion, I can now see that the visuals correlated with what he was narrating. For example, when he spoke about a color that color popped up. I do agree with the voice being monotone and not having much variation.
