God Is Design - Abel Abdessemed
This video was very interesting and fun to watch. The concept was very simple, it involved a series of short animations of lines and shapes that moved around, creating patterns and texture. The audio was a simple guitar strumming, and there was a constant movement in the animation, which fit with the tempo of the guitar audio. I thought there was a good combination of order and chaos, some of the patterns were symmetrical and predictable, but some were all over the place and unbalanced, keeping you guessing at what was coming next. I'm not exactly sure of the point or message behind the piece, it could be that behind all of the chaos there is always some sense of order, there is always something to follow. It was hard to derive a clear meaning from the short clip that I watched, but it was definitely very interesting to watch.
The transitions between clips and the morphing from one shape to the next was very clean and smooth, and this piece clearly took a lot of work. The constant moving and vibration of the lines gives it the look of a stop-motion animation, one that was designed frame-by-frame; if this is the case, it would've taken hundreds of individual frames to come together and form the final work, which indicates a great deal of time and dedication from the artist.
