"Migration" by Doug Atiken.
This video is a great demonstration of the montage technique. A lot of quick shots are put together, telling a story. Mostly static, zoom, and pan shots. The video shows a lot of different motels, with different kinds of animals inside the rooms, and how they react to their surroundings. The animals are from all over the world: bison, peacock, owl, etc. and they all interact differently. The bison knocks over chairs, pushes things around, the peacocks sit there and looks pretty, the owl tears everything up with its talons; everything is as you would expect from an animal unfamiliar with its surroundings.
The title, "Migration," makes me think of travel, usually very far, across borders: overseas. Motels are a place that travelers stay at. I think the connection of the animals in the motel rooms, even though they mostly aren't migratory animals to my knowledge, is that they are in unfamiliar territory, but they are still finding things to do with what they have. I also thought it was interesting that all the animals except for the peacocks were North American animals, initially I got the idea that they would be from all over the world until I kept watching to the end.
