Project 2_Progress_Evan Hoyt
This was the initial idea for my video: several things changed as I went along and discovered more of the vision I had for this project.
PART I: 0:00-0:40
Morning Routine, but everything is wrong
Starts with alarm sounds, the rest is unpredictable.
PART II: 0:40-1:20
It gets worse.
Why is there a banana in the microwave.
PART III: 1:20-2:00
Nothing makes sense until this point.
It all nicely comes together and ties in a neat little bow.Title, end sequence: 2:00-2:05
This is a small snippet of my ending title sequence. I chose to put the title at the end because I thought it made more sense with how the title itself fit in with the concept of the video. For the word "Dream" you see here, though it doesn't show very well on the picture, I added a drop shadow with the same color as the text to achieve a glow effect. I wanted this glow effect to give a dreamy, hazey interpretation that would emphasize the word in the title. I really like how it turned out.
The title sequence is cut, word by word, time in a way that you can almost hear the words being spoken. The title is a known saying, an excerpt from a popular children's song, and so I wanted that rhythm to come through in the editing. I think between putting the title at the end and adding the right rhythm to the sequence, this will work really well with the concept of my video.
Update: 9/21/21
I added a lot of clips and edits, mostly focusing on making the transitions seamless and make sense with the work as a whole. I tried to keep the dream-like theme in mind, making some transitions that didn't quite make sense in the physical world. Below, you can see it almost looks like my hand is going through the coffee cup as it attempts to grab it.
In addition to these transitions and edits, I also made some adjustments to the light and color of some of the clips, especially those in darker settings, so that the subject matter was easier to decipher. I decided to keep most of the original audio, although I might add some random faint sounds throughout to make it feel more like you're in my dream.
Update: 10/5/21
Over the last week, I continued to add transitions and flashbacks from previous segments of the video. I wanted to include these to further enforce the idea that my character is dreaming, sleeping through their alarm as they get ready for the day in their own little world. There are bits and pieces where you can hear the alarm sound and little flashes of my character still asleep in bed. I also added a couple "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" -type messages scattered throughout the duration of the video as well.
Comparing this image of my edit screen to the last image I posted (2 images prior), you can already tell I have made a lot more edits and added in a lot of text throughout the video.
I also spent a lot of time on my title sequence, playing around with different fonts, colors, and shadow techniques; I wanted to find something that felt a little more dream-like and more in the realms of the vision I had for this project.
By the end of this project, once all my editing and sequencing was finally done, my video is 2:39. This was over 30 seconds longer than I had originally intended the video to be, but with the flashback scenes I added, as well as a longer, more successful title sequence, I am happy with how it turned out.
