Project 1 Progress_Evan Hoyt

I originally had a time-lapse idea for my one-shot video, but I wasn't happy with how it was translating to Premiere, and the frame rate was getting all messed up, so I decided to restart my project and pick a new idea. For my second version of the One Shot project, I decided to film myself getting home from school, and making a quick meal. The idea behind this is to capture a snippet of life as a college student: we spend a lot of time away from home, many of us have jobs to pay the bills, and it can be difficult and draining to balance our busy schedules while still taking time to prepare meals, watch TV, do the things we enjoy. I microwave a quick meal of frozen veggies and get some rice and a bottle of wine out of the fridge. I wanted to seem tired, which wasn't that hard to do since I actually am pretty tired most of the time, and I like how this video turned out a lot better than my initial idea.

Here are some screenshots of my Premiere project, showing some of the settings and effects I used, as well as the way I edited my video.

First, I edited the audio. Since I recorded this from my iPhone 8, the mic isn't that good and it wasn't loud enough. I added a compressor to cut down on the peaks of the sound waves, while bringing up the rest of the sound, allowing for a less dynamic, more even sound throughout. This made it easier to hear all of the background noise, as well as the sounds of my apartment. I added a little bit of EQ to remove the lower frequencies that aren't really necessary for this video, and cut down on the higher frequencies that were more easily picked up by the mic.

After editing the audio, I did the light and color. You can see the settings I used on the right hand side. I wanted to make it look pretty natural, but make the white more balanced, so there wasn't anything too bright. I'm not completely happy with how it turned out, but I think it looks better than the original. I also wanted a warmer color pallet, with a slightly higher saturation.

Next was my title screen. I used Futura ExtraBold Condensed for the title, and Futura Medium Condensed for my name underneath. I didn't want to do anything too fancy for this part, because the whole premise of the video is meant to be simple. I figured an extravagant title sequence wouldn't make sense for a simple, one-shot video.

Here you can see the cuts and edits I made a little better. I had the audio fade in, but it comes in just a little before the video, which I thought was a nice touch. It is one-shot, so there aren't many edits. At the very end I had the video cut out for a few seconds, but the audio stays, and I added a little outtake which I thought was kind of funny. I had to redo this video several times and I kept messing up one thing or another, so I was very relieved when I found out it was actually 2 minutes long :)

Thanks for reading,
Evan
