Week3_Response_Anna
I chose to respond to Bruce Nauman, “Walking in an Exaggerated Manner around the Perimeter of a Square” (1967-68). This video is filmed in a single shot, and the camera is static. The video is in grayscale, which seems to make the video feel eerie and dramatic. The music also sets an eerie, almost creepy mood. The person in the film is walking very slowly, and seems to be "balancing" on the line of tape that makes the square. They are being very careful about where they place their feet. One foot falls directly in front of the other. The person also walks backwards sometimes. To me, the purpose of this video is to show some form of concentration or meditation. The person seems focused on walking in a specific way, forwards and backwards. Then again, the purpose may also be to make the viewer laugh; it is pretty silly that they are walking in such an exaggerated way.
