Week 3_VideoResponse_HaleyWilson

Raven Kwok Time++

I chose to respond to this video because I found it interesting to look at. The first shot of the video that you see is close up; so all you see is numbers constantly appearing and rising, but you’re not sure as to why until you see the whole installation. Once you can see the whole thing, you realize that the piece is operating as a clock. With each tick, more small numbers appear and rise in value to represent the seconds passing in a minute. Once a full minute passes, a new sound is heard, and the time of day is updated in the bigger, black, circulating numbers. This process continues on until a new hour is achieved, thus generating a new chime. Not only is the piece visually interesting, but it also allows the viewer to know how much time has passed just by what sound they are hearing in the moment; you’re essentially able to tell time by both sight and sound.
