Project 3_Jonathan_Diaz
My wall art is open to interpretation, I drew what I think is Sound Art might look like. I think Sound Art captures emotions. The darker more jumbled up areas of my picture represent the heartbreak troubled moments in life the feeling while the lighter softer areas represent the joyful and relaxing moments in life. Emotions expressed through sound and sound waves.
Starting to put new sound in premiere after using Band Lab and its a little better than before but it needs a lot of new work. I recorded random plucking from my guitar and it made the sound a little better but it still doesn't sit right with me. I kept experimented with sounds, recording foam board scrapes (that sounds pretty cool with an echo), and banging on the table with a pen.
Then I watched a YouTube video called "Sound art at the University at Southern California" where they experimented making sound with random objects. So I was inspired to create sound with a bag of Takis and a spoon and glass full of cups and my guitar served as a string instrument so I kinda cheated because I didn't have to made a string instrument. I recorded all these sounds, downloaded then from Band Lab, and started to work on my project with a new vision.
For the abstract visual I thought it would be really cool if it was accompanied by an animation to show the effect of sound and sight can have on the audience.
Around the time I was almost done with the animation I could not find the original sound nor the project file I created to export them together. So I had to re-start my audio from scratch.
The idea is still alive in my head I just had to re-interpret the sound with the animation to get the same effect. The idea of the project was to hear a visual, when I see something I want to be able to hear that movement. Just like in project 1 and 2, I connected sound and visual to create an emotion in the audience, the same concept was used in this abstract piece. Sound and visual are very powerful mediums that allows us to communicate our thoughts and feelings. At first I did not like the project because it was outside of my skillset but in the end I enjoyed the journey in pushing past my boundaries and areas of expertise in order to grow.
